It was recalled that, during plastic deformation, dislocation structures developed which exhibited regions of various orientation; separated by dislocation boundaries. Electron back-scattering diffraction and X-ray diffraction rocking-curves furnished some evidence for the existence of correlations between the misorientations of neighbouring boundaries. On the basis of a straightforward statistical model, the occurrence of anti-correlations between the misorientation angles was predicted. This was attributed to the limited free path of the mobile dislocations which mediated the plastic deformation.
