The up-grading of a standard solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer was reported which was used in combination with a field variable cryomagnet and a low-cost combined SFG and PFG nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer. Both methods were applied to solid Li, as a simple test case. The results showed that, under the given conditions, SFG nuclear magnetic resonance and PFG nuclear magnetic resonance could provide tracer diffusion coefficients for 7Li diffusion down to about 10-14 and 10-13m2/s, respectively. The SFG and PFG nuclear magnetic resonance were complementary methods.
