For the identification of vacant lattice sites in the high-temperature intermetallic compound Ru46Al54, positron lifetime measurements as well as coincident measurements of the two Doppler-broadened positron-electron annihilation photons were employed. These data demonstrated that thermal vacancies were formed on the Ru metal sub-lattice similar to FeAl and NiAl where the thermal vacancies were also formed on the transition metal sub-lattice.
