Recent results had shown that different methods for obtaining line integrals for the energies of dislocation loops and, by extension, of arbitrary dislocation configurations gave differing results when a constant core cut-off parameter was used. It was shown that a self-consistent choice of differing cut-off parameters for the various methods removed the disparity in energy. The choice of cut-off parameter was considered within the context of core-core interactions, which were important when correlating elastic estimates of energies, and atomistic results.
