An extinction model for a crystal which contained a random dislocation distribution was proposed. The model was based upon the assumption that a heavily distorted region around each dislocation exhibited kinematic diffraction, while the remainder of the crystal exhibited dynamic diffraction. The dislocation densities, as deduced from extinction data by using this model, were in satisfactory agreement with the results of direct dislocation observations of the same samples.
