The frequency-dependent mechanical loss occurring at the oscillation of a single dislocation under an applied cyclic stress with frequencies in the MHz–GHz range was investigated by means of a discrete dislocation dynamics simulation and by an analytical treatment. With the help of an analytical solution, an influence parameter for the occurrence of inertial effects was derived.
