High strength Al–Sc alloy was impacted at strain-rates ranging from 1.2 x 103 to 5.8 x 103/s at room temperature. The deformation behaviour of Al–Sc alloy was highly dependent upon the strain rate. A higher strain rate increased the dislocation density, thereby reducing the size of the dislocation cells.
