The relationship between strain rate sensitivity and activation volume for face-centered-cubic metals was proposed based upon the bow-out model of single dislocation from its source, which gave reasonable prediction of the enhanced strain rate sensitivity that occurred in nanostructured and ultra-fine grained Ni and Cu.
