Internal friction measurements were performed on Fe–Al alloys at 100 to 960K using the vibrating-reed technique. The concentration of Al was varied between 0 (pure Fe) and 50at%Al (FeAl) to analyze the effect of Al. Four damping peaks were observed. From the Snoek-type peak, the parameters of the short-range diffusion of C in Fe–Al alloys were determined, while the isothermal annealing at temperatures near the Snoek-type peak has yielded information about the long-range diffusion during precipitation of carbides.
