The diffusion and binding of CO molecules on self organized Pt nanowires on Ge(001), were studied by room temperature scanning tunneling microscopy. CO molecules were found to bind at the bridge position of the Pt dimers. The CO molecules were mobile at room temperature and perform a so-called unrestricted 1-dimensional random walk in defect-free regions of the Pt nanowires.
