An investigation was made of H permeation through melt-spun alloy in supercooled liquid, quasi-crystalline particle-dispersed glassy and crystalline states. The H permeability of the alloy was highest in the supercooled liquid state and was lowest in the crystalline state. The H permeability of melt-spun alloys consisting of quasi-crystalline particles dispersed in the glassy state was intermediate between single-phase glassy and crystalline alloys. This was assumed to be because the Zr content in the residual glassy phase decreased after primary precipitation of the icosahedral-phase; resulting in a decrease in H permeability.
