An explicit solution for describing the shielding effects arising from a screw dislocation near an elliptically blunted crack was presented. This was a general solution which could degenerate to the solutions of a finite crack and an infinite crack, and could apply for a dislocation either emitted from the crack surface or originating elsewhere and for a dislocation located anywhere around the crack tip. Based upon the solution, the effects of the morphology of the blunt crack and the position of the dislocation on the shielding were examined.
