A more general method was proposed for determining the stress functions (from which the stress field was derived) of an edge-dislocation pile-up and wall. To this end, Kröner’s theory of discrete dislocation in a continuum was applied to these typical infinite and periodic configurations of edge dislocations. It was shown that the calculated stress functions could be used to determine easily the stress field of other configurations such as screw dislocation pile-ups or symmetrical tilt boundary.
