The effect of light upon dislocation motion, and the associated flow stress, was examined in Hg0.3Cd0.7Te. This material exhibited a relatively small photoplastic effect, with a time delay. Possible photoplasticity mechanisms were considered, together with methods for exploiting the photoplastic effect in reducing dislocation densities.
