It was noted that recent advances in the growth of high-quality single-crystal chemical vapour deposited diamond had led to an increased interest in the atomistic and electronic structures of <100> dislocations. These were observed as mixed-type 45° and pure edge dislocations. A previous investigation of both types had found that the 45° type was much lower in core energy than was the proposed structure of the edge type. Attention was focused here on the straight <100> dislocation alone, and novel core reconstructions were presented. A minimum-energy structure was found for the edge-type dislocation, which had a similar core energy to that of the mixed-type dislocation.
