The surface morphology and crystallography of chemical vapor deposited wafers were considered, with the emphasis being placed on twin blocks and twin quintuples. The surface facet crystallography of 2 diamond wafer groups were determined. One contained Σ3 twin blocks, and the other had a large population of twin quintuplets. The tool used for the study was a scanning electron microscope and the technique used to identify surface crystallography involved only accurate tilting and surface observation. A basic knowledge of the twin structure permitted accurate determination of surface crystallography.
