The electrode and O permeation properties of Sm-doped composites, prepared on a Sm-doped CeO2 electrolyte, were described. Porous and thin-film samples were prepared by using citrate-based liquid-mix and chemical solution deposition techniques, respectively. In Cole–Cole plots of porous and thin-film electrodes, 2 semi-circles which corresponded to interface and chemical impedances were observed. Thin-film electrodes of 1μm-thick (Ce0.9Sm0.1)O2–30vol%CoFe2O4 composite exhibited a current density of 509mA/cm2 at 900C under a cathodic over-potential of 159mV. It also exhibited an O flux density of 1.3μmol/cm2s at 900C under a PO2 of 1.2 x 10−20atm.
