A study was made of electrons moving in a magnetic field in the presence of a screw dislocation. Attention was focussed on the effect of the screw dislocation, upon the energy spectrum of the electron or hole in the magnetic field, within a continuum theory of defects that was isomorphic to three-dimensional gravity. Exact expressions were found for the eigenfunctions and eigenvalues of the energy, and it was confirmed that the infinite degeneracy of the Landau levels was broken by the unusual boundary conditions which were imposed by the defect.
