The atomic structure of molecular beam epitaxially prepared As-rich (100)-(2 x 4) surfaces was studied by means of synchrotron radiation surface X-ray diffraction. An analysis of a large set of non-equivalent in-plane diffraction peaks, and 7 out-of-plane rods yielded the so-called β2-(2 x 4) model. The structure comprised two As dimers in the top layer, and one As dimer in the third layer below the first incomplete In layer.
