Cation self-diffusion parallel to the c-axis was measured at 1100 to 1300C, under O partial pressures of 2 x 10-3 to 1atm (table 98). Previous diffusion studies had indicated that cation self-diffusion occurred via an interstitial-type mechanism. However, sample-to-sample variations in the Fe diffusivity suggested that all of the diffusion measurements may have been performed using samples in which the defect concentrations were impurity-controlled.
