It was recalled that the motion of positrons in a planar channel defined by 2 atomic planes gave rise to discrete energy levels in the transverse potential. The transitions from these bound states to scattering states, due to lattice distortions in the planar channel, were described by using a time-dependent centrifugal-energy term. The resultant expressions for dechannelling probabilities, and therefore for the dechannelling cross-section of initially well-channelled particles was estimated, and qualitative features such as the dechannelling radius and energy dependence were considered.
