The Peierls stress was calculated for a discrete lattice model with various ratios of the slip-plane spacing to the Burgers vector. The Peierls stress was determined as being the critical applied stress beyond which no stable dislocation configuration was found. The atomic positions were calculated by using the lattice-statics Green's function. The results for the lattice model were closely approximated by an exponential dependence upon the above ratio; as predicted by continuum models. The Peierls stresses for some interatomic potentials were slightly lower than those deduced from experiments. The period of the Peierls potential which was deduced from the lattice model was identical to the lattice constant.
