The O self-diffusion behaviour in samples which contained 12 to 15mol%MgO was studied by using the isotope exchange technique and 18O tracers. The results for monocrystalline cubic material containing 12ml%MgO were described by:

D (m2/s) = 1.02 x 10-8 exp[62.8(kJ/mol)/RT]

With decreasing temperature, the O self-diffusivity tended to deviate towards lower values with increasing apparent activation energy. The temperature depedece of the diffusion coefficients below 1400C indicated that the activation energy here was about 150kJ/mol.
