The displacement field of an edge dislocation in Al was investigated experimentally. Three typical theoretical models were considered. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy and geometrical phase analysis were used to map the displacement field of an edge dislocation. The displacement field near to the dislocation core was determined. The experimental results showed that the Peierls-Nabarro model was the most appropriate theoretical model for treating the displacement field of dislocations in Al.
