The basic experimental features which characterized the Al-Si/U-Mo interface were identified by atomistic modelling. These included the formation of interfacial compounds, Si depletion in the Al matrix near to the interface, reduced Al diffusion in the U-Mo solid solution and an interaction between Mo and Si which inhibited Al and Si diffusion into the U-Mo bulk.
