The dependence of the coefficient of magnetic susceptibility upon the dislocation density was investigated in tensile-deformed polycrystalline Fe and Mn-steel (JIS SFVQ-1A). The dislocation density was measured by means of transmission electron microscopy. The coefficient was deduced from hysteresis loops, and was found to be proportional to the dislocation density. It was concluded that the observed dependence of the coefficient of magnetic susceptibility was valid when homogeneously distributed dislocations were present.
