The dynamic properties of an edge dislocation with a Burgers vector of ½[111], on a {112} plane in body-centered cubic Fe, were studied by means of molecular dynamics; using a Finnis-Sinclair N-body potential. The relationship between the dislocation velocity and the external shear stress was investigated systematically. It was shown that the relationship between velocity and shear stress was linear in the low-stress region, and the velocity approached the speed of sound asymptotically in the high-stress region. These results agreed qualitatively with experimental results.
