Defect-free Pd and Au alloy membranes (4 to 5μm in thickness), supported on porous α-alumina tubes, were fabricated by electroless plating technique followed by thermal annealing. The Au content was adjusted from 0 to 10wt% by controlling the concentration of K[Au(CN)4] in the electroless plating solution. The alloy membranes were characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis, scanning electron microscopy and elemental analysis using EDX and ICP-atomic emission spectrophotometry. The performance of the Pd-Au membranes was evaluated with respect to the H flux, perm-selectivity and long-term operation at 600C.
