New results for such segments were derived from the De Wit expressions for an infinite straight dislocation. When restricted to linear isotropic elasticity, these compact formulae could be given in tensor and vector notation for an arbitrary Cartesian reference frame. This solution permitted the computation of the internal stress fields or dislocation/dislocation interactions which were involved in three-dimensional simulations of plastic strain at spatial scales which involved large numbers of dislocations.
