Here, a 2-dimensional continuum theory of dislocations was presented in which elastic anharmonicity effects were taken into account. It was shown that, in contrast to the continuum theory based upon linear elasticity, incorporating a non-linear elastic-energy term could lead to instability of the homogeneous dislocation distribution.
