An analytical approach was developed in order to treat the sudden stopping of a shear dislocation that acted over an expanding circular or elliptical region. The analysis began with the case of a circular region. In spite of the fact that this situation was not self-similar, it was possible to express the solution as being a superposition of several self-similar problems with various degrees of homogeneity. The use of a new rotational superposition technique, which included a stretching effect, permitted an extension to elliptical shear dislocation problems.
