Cyclic deformation behaviors of face-centered cubic metals, especially Cu and Ag single crystals, were compared. It was found that the dislocation patterns of gued Cu and Ag single crystals displayed similar features with ladder-like persistent slip bands. The current finding confirms that, after Cu and Ni, Ag was the third pure face-centred cubic metal to form the ladder-like persistent slip band structure. Based upon the two-phase model of the saturation shear stress, a new criterion for persistent slip band formation was established.
