The dissociation of molecular oxygen adsorbed on Ag(110) by electron-energy-loss spectroscopy was studied. It was observed that the dissociation of the adsorbed molecules at 150K was connected to increased surface disorder. The elastic reflectivity was recovered at 200K independently of coverage when the added row reconstruction of the substrate sets in.
