Phason flips during the migration of a perfect dislocation in a Penrose lattice were considered. Two kinds of phason flip occurred. These were complex multiple flips at the dislocation core, and simple flips outside of the core region. Structural changes during the glide of a perfect dislocation in the Burkov model of a decagonal quasi-crystal were also computed. Simple phason flips outside of the core, in this model, corresponded to rearrangements of tenfold-symmetrical atomic cluster columns. Such arrangements were accommodated via short-range atomic shuffles.
