It was recalled that the concept of a flat connection was used in the continuum theory of defects. A characterization of such connections was presented here via injective R3-valued differential forms. For material structures having continuous distributions of dislocations, a configuration space (in the sense of global analysis) was introduced and analyzed. The kinematics of the dislocations were formulated as a generalization of the elasticity case.
