A model was developed for the description of phason defects, in quasi-crystals, in the form of dilatation filaments. This model was used to calculate the energy of edge dislocations in quasi-crystals; including the interaction of this type of dislocation with its so-called intrinsic phason defects, and with the equilibrium phason defects which were present in a quasi-crystal. It was shown that the contribution of the intrinsic phason defects, to the total energy of an edge dislocation in a quasi-crystal, was substantial.
