The homo-epitaxial growth on Pt(111) was investigated by scanning tunnelling microscopy. The nearly perfect layer-by-layer growth of this system at 650K previously inferred from almost undamped He-scattering oscillations was demonstrated to be induced by the network reconstruction periodically sweeping over the surface.
