C60 thin films with randomly oriented grains were grown on an (001) NaCl substrate at a substrate temperature of 160C. Then Ag atoms were deposited on the top of the fullerene surface in the same vacuum without changing the substrate temperature. During the deposition of the Ag, drastic changes in the film morphology and orientation were observed. By manipulating the thickness of the pristine film, different morphologies of the reconstructed C60 films with triangular, dendritic and fractal-like (111)-oriented single-crystal grains were obtained.
