It was noted that short-range dislocation interactions were inherently atomistic and could currently be investigated only by means of atomistic simulations. Large-scale molecular-dynamics simulations could furnish a large amount of quantitative information about the generation, motion and interaction of dislocations. It was shown here that atomistic simulations were essential to the investigation of short-range dislocation interactions via the analysis of junction formation and jog formation during dislocation intersection.
