The interaction between carbon partitioning from martensite to austenite and interface migration during annealing of martensite–austenite microstructures was modelled, assuming the same chemical potential of carbon in martensite and austenite at the interface and allowing the motion of the phase interface when a free-energy difference occurred. The simulations showed that the motion of the martensite–austenite interface could be significant and could takes place in either direction.
