A theoretical model was suggested which described the generation of a misfit dislocation dipole within the system consisting of a soft infinite matrix containing a circular stiff nanoscale inhomogeneity. The critical conditions for misfit dislocation dipole formation and the equilibrium (preferred) location of the misfit dislocation dipole was given. The influence of the ratio of the shear moduli, the misfit stain and the equilibrium position of the dislocation upon the critical radius of the inhomogeneity was investigated.
