An extendable framework was presented for computing the distortion field, surrounding a straight edge-dislocation, within classical continuum field theory. The proposed framework was intended to solve the classic elastic problem, while taking account of the dislocation core. This was particularly applicable to numerical methods in which the dislocation core and surrounding material were represented by a basis wherein real space was discretised (finite difference, finite element, etc.). The surface topology of the distortion field, and the dislocation density, were presented. Topological Form of a Classical Continuum Theory of Crystalline Defects.
