The resonant frequency of vibrations of dislocation dipoles in fatigued face-centered cubic metals was found to be rather high (100GHz range). Because of the high attenuation of ultrasound in the GHz range, a contribution of these self-vibrations to the degradation of dipole structures was expected to occur only in thin layers.
