The synthesis, and structural and microstructural characterization of Sr1.5Sb0.5O3−y
(y ~ 0.25) was described. The material had a cubic, double-perovskite structure,
and a large concentration of oxygen vacancies with no apparent long-range order.
High-resolution electron microscopy indicated that short-range ordering
phenomena could occur. The electrical conductivity was independent of the oxygen
partial pressure for PO2<10−1.25atm, and was typical of ionic transport (σ ~ 10−4S/cm
at 600C), whereas the conductivity was dominated by p-type charge carriers at
higher PO2.
