The diffusion modes of solute atoms situated at a kink, and at the extremities of a kink, were analyzed. The probability density or distribution function of solute atoms at a given position on a kink chain was formulated. This distribution function changed when the kink chain moved under an applied stress. The change in the total energy of the kink chain, and thus the transverse and the longitudinal forces acting upon the solute atom, was calculated. The equations for the longitudinal and transverse core diffusion of solute atoms were thereby derived as well.
