The vibrational density of states of hydrogen trapped at dislocations in deformed
PdH0.0008 was measured at 4 and 295K with incoherent inelastic neutron scattering.
The vibrational density of states at 4K exhibits features characteristic of the lowtemperature
β-Pd hydride phase while the characteristic peak in the 295K density
of states corresponded to the solid-solution α-Pd phase. This was evidence of an α
→ β transition at low temperature within the distorted environment of dislocations.
