It was shown that the nuclei of dislocation walls could form due to the dynamic loss of stability of a dislocation cluster near to the boundaries of a shear zone. A mathematical model was suggested which described the kinetics of a defective medium that consisted of dislocations and dislocation walls. The phase diagrams of dislocation density versus disclination density exhibited features which included a saddle point, a stable node and a limiting cycle of complex structure.
