The formation of a network dislocation structure, during the plastic deformation of a crystalline material which was strengthened with dispersed non-deformable particles, was considered. A new mechanism for the formation of dislocation tangles, based upon the growth of prismatic dislocation loops, was suggested. The model took account of the formation and growth of prismatic dislocation loops due to the precipitation of deformation-induced point defects (interstitials, vacancies, di-vacancies) upon them. Variations in the scale parameters of the prismatic loops, and their contribution to the formation of a network dislocation structure, were studied.
