A clear grain orientation dependence of deformation twinning was identified in coarse-grained copper subjected to dynamic plastic deformation. Deformation twins tend to occur in grains with orientations near the [001] corner but not in grains near the [101] corner, which could be explained in terms of a Schmid factor analysis. This finding provides a guideline for the design of initial texture in exploring the structural refinement via deformation twins.
