A three-dimensional simulation of dislocation dynamics and interactions was described, with the emphasis being placed on the two main types of dislocation property. That is, those which could be described within an elastic framework and those which arose from the core properties. Three examples were given which illustrated the different domains of application of such numerical modelling. These were anomalous flow properties, dislocation patterning in pure face-centered cubic crystals and the transition between quasi-static and dynamic testing.
